Iowa receives $5.8 million grant for storm repair in 57 counties

Iowa received a $5.8 million federal National Emergency Grant to aid repair in 57 counties affected by storms this summer.

“This grant will help rebuild Iowa’s public facilities, infrastructure and parks,” Gov. Chet Culver said in a news release. “It will not only help communities recover from the storms, it will also help put unemployed Iowans back to work.”

The funds will be used to provide temporary employment on projects for the clean-up, demolition, repair, renovation and reconstruction of destroyed public structures, facilities and lands within the affected communities, according to the release.
