WBB: Iowa State tops Colorado on senior day

Kayci Woodley —

Iowa State topped Colorado 59-41 in Hilton on Saturday and secured its second place finish in the Big 12. The Cyclones will enter the Big 12 tournament as the No. 2 seed.

After a slow start in the first half, the Cyclones found the magic in Hilton in the second half to pull away for the victory.

Senior Denae Stuckey had a solid performance in her final regular season home game with nine points, nine rebounds and five assists on the day. Stuckey’s breakaway layups at the end of the game sparked the Hilton crowd and she rounded out the scoring for Iowa State.

Freshman post Chelsea Poppens was another top performer for Iowa State as she posted 10 points, nine rebounds and three steals on the day.

Junior guard Kelsey Bolte led the offense with her 19 points and her leadership on the floor in Lacey’s absence. Late in the game Bolte pulled the other four players together for a quick huddle and regrouping, getting the team to focus prior to a free throw shot by Stuckey.
