WBB: Cyclones named No. 4 seed in NCAA Tournament

Iowa State will be a No. 4 seed in the Dayton region of the 2010 NCAA Women’s Championships.

The Cyclones (23–7) will be matched up with Lehigh of the Patriot Conference in the first round to be played Sunday in Hilton Coliseum. The other game to be played in Ames will be between No. 5 seed Virginia and No. 12 Wisconsin-Green Bay to determine who Iowa State could match up with in the second round.

If the Cyclones advance to the Sweet 16, they would likely face Dayton’s top seed, Connecticut.

UConn is also the tournament’s No. 1 overall seed, fitting, as the Huskies are sitting at 33–0 and are riding a 72-game winning streak spanning two seasons. If the Huskies can run the table through the tournament, they’ll become the first women’s team in NCAA history to finish two consecutive seasons undefeated.

Stanford (31–1) will be the top team in the Sacramento region, while Tennessee (30–2) was named the No. 1 seed in the Memphis region, and Iowa State’s Big 12 rival Nebraska (30–1) will be the No. 1 in Kansas City.

The Big 12 is well represented in the 64-team field with seven teams, including a No. 1 seed in Nebraska, a No. 2 seed in Texas A&M and three No. 4 seeds.

Tournament play begins Saturday.
