‘Severe winter weather’ prompts cancellations, closings

Due to severe winter weather conditions, Iowa State has canceled evening classes that begin at or after 6 p.m. Park Library and its associated branches will also close at 6 p.m.

According to a news release, university officials anticipate classes will be held as scheduled Tuesday. Officials said they will monitor weather and road conditions overnight and make a decision regarding Tuesday’s classes by 6 a.m.

According to CyRide’s Facebook fanpage, CyRide is running its regular weekday schedule. The status update, however, warns that buses may be running late.

According to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s travel information Web site, roads are becoming increasingly difficult to traverse.

According to the site, Interstate 35 is closed or impassable between Ames and Clear Lake, and state Highway 69 is closed or impassable between Story City and state highway 20. Travel is labeled “difficult” on most major highways in central Iowa.

Intramural activites will continue as scheduled Monday night, according to an e-mail sent to intramural participants from Garry Greenlee, director of Recreation Services.

In the e-mail, Greenlee encourages students to stay home if they don’t feel comfortable traveling in the weather, and that teams will not face forfeit fines for deciding not to travel.
