With music blasting and people dancing, Fashion Week 2019 closed with a Vans “Off the Wall” event outside of Parks Library Friday.

From noon to 2 p.m., Iowa State student and live DJ Jacob Koutas played upbeat music throughout the Parks Library overhang. Samantha Krager and Brian Boynton from GENRE Club also gave a acoustic performance.

DubH, an on-campus hip-hop club, also made special flash mob performances showcasing The Fashion Show 2019 guest designer Vans at noon and 1 p.m.

Crowds gathered as attention was drawn to the hip hop dancers and Vans representatives Katie Essex, Lynda Castillo, James McCahon, Jerod Harmon and Derek Huenecke were able to come watch the 1 p.m. DubH flash mob.

“I didn’t know what to expect but that was so fun and it was super energetic.” said Marissa Knapps, a student who came to watch a friend in the flash mob. “That was something I think a lot of people needed to see to hype them back up.”

Kelly Dietzenbach, Fashion Show fundraising committee member and junior in apparel, merchandising and design, said the event was going very well and they had a pretty good with the help of flyers they handed out in the library.

“Everyone seemed to enjoy the flash mob [and] there was a lot of people recording it,” Dietzenbach said.

The Fashion Show committee members and directors handed out treats and information about the upcoming show. There were also tables set up to purchase The Fashion Show 2019 merchandise as well as a chance to enter a giveaway for a $50 vans gift card.

Fashion Week 2019 will be coming to a close after Friday’s “Fashion’s Night Out” event. The event will be taking place in the Kildee Farm Bureau Pavilion from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. There will be live music, appetizers and dessert, as well as a word from Vans. The event is free and open to anyone.
