No. 7 Texas Tech 57

No. 10 Oklahoma State 63

RECAP:

OKLAHOMA CITY- Oklahoma State overcame a shaky start and a physical Texas Tech squad to pull out a 62-57 victory over the Red Raiders. In what became a game of streaks, Texas Tech started the game leading 15-0. But Oklahoma State fans began getting involved in the game once the team put together a few runs, and after the announcement of the Cowboy’s defeat of the rival Sooners in the Ford Arena a block away. The Cowgirls went into halftime down 28-17, but started the second half 16-4, in favor of OSU, including three 3-pointers in three minutes by senior guard Taylor Hardeman. Oklahoma State and Texas Tech alternated halves statistically, with OSU shooting 22.8 percent in the first half, and close to 60 percent in the second half, and Tech shooting 44 percent and then 25 percent to follow up.

PLAYER OF THE GAME: Andrea Riley, guard, Oklahoma State (16 points, 8 assists, 40 minutes)

The do-it-all 5-foot-5 Cowgirl guard was the floor general for a club that needed a drastic turn in momentum early in the game. Controlled the ball late, and sunk a free throw to ice the game.

QUOTEABLE:

“So proud of our guys [OSU men’s team], we heard the cheer from the crowd and that’s actually what kind of got us going turning the opposite way, we were like, ‘guys, our guy’s won and we cannot go down with a loss, we have to win this game’. It’s just getting OSU fans up and ready for basketball, it brings it out of you as a player.” -Taylor Hardeman on the announcement of OSU men’s upset in Ford Center

“This team can come back, we knew we could, and we knew we couldn’t possibly shoot 22 percent again, we hoped anyway. I didn’t even look yet, what did we shoot in the second half? 59-percent? Well, that’s a little different isn’t it?” -Oklahoma State coach Kurt Budke on scoring 13 points in the first half

WHAT IT MEANS:

No. 10 Oklahoma State (16-14) vs. No. 2 Baylor (24-5) 5 p.m. Friday

Baylor’s team points and rebounds leader Danielle Wilson tore her ACL on February 28, and the team lost to upstart Kansas by 25 points, then beat 10th-ranked Texas A&M by four, three days later. Which Baylor team will show up remains to be seen, but Oklahoma State was picked to finish sixth in the preseason Big 12 polls, so the talent is there. Baylor defeated OSU by 18 and by two in overtime in their two meetings, but the had Wilson during the games. Oklahoma State will need to shoot better than 45-percent from the floor to beat the Bears, the No. 2 seed and seventh-ranked team nationally.
