ISU basketball player Wes Eikmeier will transfer, coach Greg McDermott announced Thursday.

Eikmeier, who just completed his freshman season, said in a press release that he wanted to go to a school where he could make a more immediate impact.

“With my body the way it is, I would really have to improve significantly with my strength to be able to compete at this level,” he said in the press release. “My decision has nothing to do with the coaching staff, my teammates or school.”

Eikmeier played in 26 games this season, but also battled injuries throughout the year.

He is the second player to transfer since the season ended at the Big 12 Championships, joining fellow freshman Clinton Mann, who also cited wanting more playing time early in his career. Nine players have either been removed from the team or transferred during McDermott’s first three years.
