WOMEN’S NCAA TOURNAMENT: Cyclones hope for better outcome in 2nd Stanford game

Nate Sandell —

BERKELEY, Calif. – Iowa State’s early season meeting with Stanford is a game the Cyclones would like to forget.

With the Nov. 29 game being played on a neutral site in Honolulu, the Cardinal put their offensive ability on full display.

Stanford ripped into the Iowa State defense for 83 points, while holding the Cyclones to their lowest scoring performance of the season (45).

Cardinal head coach Tara VanDerveer said her team can use that game as building block heading into Monday’s Elite Eight showdown.

“It is good for our team confidence knowing we can play well against Iowa State,” she said. “The bad thing for us is if our team is overconfident or complacent or if any way thinks Iowa State is the same team we played back then. They are clearly much much better and I think we’re clearly much better too.”

The two-seeded Cardinal earned their 13th appearance in a Regional Final after knocking out No. 3 Ohio State, 84-66, in Sweet 16 on Saturday night. Stanford has now won 19 consecutive games.
