BERKELEY, Calif. – Pure pandemonium. The ISU women’s basketball team came back from a seven-point deficit by scoring eight points in the game’s final minute, then held on during a wild final Michigan State possession to win 69-68 and move on to the Elite Eight.

Nicky Wieben made a layup to start the comeback, then things got crazy. Kelsey Bolte stole the ensuing inbound, dished it to Ezell who banked in a 3-pointer to put the Cyclones down two. The Cyclones pressured the inbound, trapped Lykendra Johnson in the backcourt, and forced her into a bad pass that went out of bounds with 45 seconds remaining. After two Cyclone misses, Ezell grabbed an offensive rebound, and found Alison Lacey who drilled an open three to put the Cyclones up by one with 25 seconds remaining.

The Spartans missed a three pointer on their first try at the lead, but held on for a jump ball that went in their favor with seven seconds left on the clock. It was a wild, sloppy final seven seconds, but Michigan State missed two shots near the hoop and time expired giving the Iowa State its second Elite Eight berth in the program’s history.

“We got one more bounce and we get to keep playing,” said coach Bill Fennelly after the game.

Alison Lacey led the Cyclones with 29 points on 3-of-7 shooting from the arc, while Amanda Nisleit came up big with 17 points on 3-of-3 shooting from downtown to lead the Cyclones offensively. As a team, the Cyclones were 10-of-25 from 3-point land and brought their tournament total to 36 threes. The tournament record is 44.

Iowa State advances to take on the winner of No. 2 Stanford and No. 3 Ohio State at 8 p.m. Monday on ESPN.
