Join the Impact at City Hall in Des Moines

Supporters of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender rights will hold a rally at the Des Moines City Hall on Saturday.

The event, scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m., will be part of the nationwide rally against recent decisions in Arizona, California and Florida to ban gay marriage organized by Join the Impact, a blog created to speak out against California’s Proposition 8.

Brad Clark, campaign director of One Iowa, an LGBT rights advocacy orgnaization, said the rally will last about 30 minutes and will feature several area speakers.

Confirmed speakers include Iowa Sen. Matt McCoy, D-District 31, Ben Stone, executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Iowa, and Linda Trudeau, president of Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays’ Ames chapter.
