Blythe cut from Saint training camp

Former ISU wide receiver Todd Blythe was one of five players cut by the New Orleans Saints on Tuesday.

NFL teams are required to reduce their rosters to 75 players on Aug. 26. Teams will face further cuts on Aug. 20, when the NFL requires cuts to 53.

Buffalo Bills linebacker Jon Banks is the last Cyclone from the 2007 football team to make an NFL roster after signing a free agent contract.

Former ISU quarterback Bret Meyer was signed on by Washington, but cut just eight days later. Long-snapper Matt Purvis and tight end Ben Barkema tried out for Chicago and Cleveland, respectively, but did not make the team.

Former ISU linebacker Alvin Bowen, a sixth-round draft pick by Buffalo, was placed on injury reserve by Buffalo on Aug. 7 after suffering a knee injury in practice.
