Iowa State’s most eligible bachelor

John Askew

He’s tall, dark and handsome, and this ISU student was just named the 2007 Iowa Bachelor by Cosmopolitan magazine.

Meet Brad Horan, senior in communication studies – campus’ hottest bachelor and one of 50 chosen for the magazine’s “hottest in the nation” spread.

FYI recently had a chance to sit down with Horan and talk about being Mr. Iowa, what he looks for in a girl and what’s next for the local heartthrob.

FYI: So, tell me about how this happened.

Brad Horan: I had my name submitted by my modeling agent in New York, and I got a call from “Cosmo” in June, but I had to keep it a secret until recently. I didn’t have any idea that she had even sent in my application.

FYI: What were your first thoughts after you got the call?

Horan: [Laughs] It was like, “Should I take it?” But I’m glad I did end up taking it.

FYI: What do your friends or family think?

Horan: My family is really supportive. I mean, my mom thinks it’s really great, and my dad doesn’t say much about it. But my friends all think it’s kind of funny.

FYI: You’re going to school for finance and communication – any modeling in your future?

Horan: I think so. I’m not really sure what I want to do yet. But I did do some modeling this summer for Marc Ecko and Ben Sherman, so we’ll see what happens.

FYI: So this Mr. Iowa title is just a random thing?

Horan: Basically, yes – I’m just looking at it as something random right now, but in the future I can see this as something to help me.

FYI: What’s next for you?

Horan: I go back to New York on Thursday to get together with all the other guys who were chosen, and I think we go on a morning talk show, and then there’s some other media events.

FYI: Strangest thing you’ve experienced so far?

Horan: I keep having random people message me with things like “Yum” and it’s kind of creepy. Other than that, I guess just all the attention this has gotten me – I’ve never really dealt with things like this before.

FYI: So what do you look for in a girl?

Horan: Humor – she has to be able to laugh a lot and have a good time.
