Cyclones defeat Kansas, win fourth Big 12 Tournament in six years

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — With a lot of questions surrounding the Cyclones before this week, Iowa State put most of those to rest with a 3-0 Big 12 Tournament stretch.
Iowa State picked up its fourth Big 12 Tournament Championship in six years on Saturday with a 78-66 win over the Kansas Jayhawks.
After its semifinal win over Kansas State, the Cyclones nearly replicated their first half performance. In each game, Iowa State led at half, holding a 32-22 advantage over the Jayhawks at the midway point.
Senior guard Marial Shayok started slow, scoring four points in the first half on 2-of-7 shooting. The Cyclones jumped out to lead off the backs of their forwards.
Redshirt junior forward Michael Jacobson tallied an efficient seven points in the first half, and freshman George Conditt IV helped spark the Cyclones off the bench.
After the break, Iowa State surrendered a bucket, and it followed with a 9-0 run of its own to push the lead to 41-24.
The Jayhawks churned out a 7-0 run halfway through the second half to force themselves back into the game, but a Tyrese Haliburton 3-pointer and Lindell Wigginton and-one kept the Cyclones in control.
Kansas trimmed the deficit to single digits late in the game but failed to grab a lead, resulting in another Big 12 Tournament Championship for Iowa State.
