Truck and trailer overturn on Highway 30

A truck and trailer swerved off of Highway 30 next to Hunziker Youth Sports Complex on Thursday evening, injuring three and totaling the truck.

A 1992 Ford F-250 was traveling eastbound when the trailer, loaded with three industrial-sized lawn mowers, belonging to Central Iowa Lawn and Home Care, went off the of the road, the driver swerved to correct and tipped over.

The three people in the Ford, Chris Miller, Shaun Schrader and John Thrasher, were taken to Mary Greeley Medical Center.

Deb Simdorn, house manager for Mary Greeley, said the men’s injuries were not life threatening.

Dan Jacobson, an Ames resident who works for Central Iowa Lawn and Home Care, was called to the scene of the crash around 5:30 p.m.

“The drop trailer dropped off of the edge of the road and tipped over,” Jacobson said.

Trent Lolly, also a Central Iowa Lawn and Home Care employee, happened to be on Highway 30 at the time and called his supervisor.

“I drove by and saw the lawnmowers and cops and just called everybody,” Lolly said.
