The Iowa State Cyclones Big 12 season began with a loss against the Texas Longhorns falling 11-0 on Friday.

The Longhorns started out with an early lead with three runs on two hits in the bottom of the second to make the score 3-0 in favor of Texas.

The Cyclones defensive difficulties continued with Longhorn junior Reagan Hathaway and sophomore Janae Jefferson’s back-to-back RBI base hits to extend the lead to 5-0.

Texas finished off the game in the fifth inning with bases loaded, leaving junior Miranda Elish an opportunity to hit a grand slam to make the final score 11-0.

The game ended due to the mercy rule of Texas having over a 10 run lead in the fifth inning.

The Iowa State Cyclones will face the Texas Longhorns again at 1 p.m. Saturday.
