Cyclones knock off DePaul in extra innings

Iowa State played a nail-biting thriller on Friday in the Easton Invitational, defeating DePaul 6-4 in the ninth inning.

The Demons came out swinging, scoring three runs on three hits and a walk in the bottom of the first inning, giving DePaul a 3-0 lead. Iowa State starting pitcher Savannah Sanders helped the defense, allowing one hit over the following four innings.

In the top of the fourth, Kaylee Bosworth connected with a two-RBI single to left field, allowing Sami Williams and Jaclyn Chairez to score. DePaul’s Skylor Hilger answered back with a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth to make the score 4-2.

The fifth inning was filled with excitement as Williams answered with a solo home run, followed by freshman Mikayla Ramos’ two-out RBI single to tie the game, 4-4.

Senior pitcher Emma Hylen came into the game, pitching the final four innings without giving up a hit and striking out three Blue Demon’s

The game was scoreless until the Cyclones broke the tie with Williams’ second RBI of the day, allowing Sydney Stites to score.

Iowa State had the lead for the first time in the game allowing Talyn Lewis to come out and give the Cyclones a little cushion with a RBI single to left allowing Kirsten Caudle to score resulting in a 6-4 win.

The Cyclones will play Saturday against Boston at 2 p.m and Harvard at 5 p.m.
