Cyclones split first two games against Texas Tech

After a rain delay on the Friday, the Cyclones played two games against Texas Tech, resulting in a 6-5 win and a 8-3 loss.

Game one of the Cyclones’ series against the Red Raiders that started on Friday resumed at 2 p.m. on Saturday with the Red Raiders holding a 3-2 lead over the Cyclones in the top of the fifth inning with a runner on second base with two outs.

First baseman Jessica Hartwell was the runner, and she scored for the Red Raiders after stealing third and an error by the Cyclones which gave Texas Tech a 4-2 lead.

Iowa State got back to within one run in the bottom of the fifth with a Sally Woolpert solo home run.

The Red Raiders put the nail in the coffin in the top of the seventh inning as shortstop Taylor Satchell hit a grand slam to give the Red Raiders an 8-3 victory over the Cyclones in game one.

In the second game of the series, the Red Raiders got out to a 1-0 lead when Heaven Burton scored off of an error by the Cyclones in the top of the first inning.

Iowa State quickly tied things up in the bottom of the first inning as shortstop Sami Williams smashed a solo home run to center field.

Center fielder Taylor Nearad followed Williams with a home run of her own to center field and the Cyclones took a 2-1 lead.

To round out the bottom of the first inning, designated player Mikayla Ramos hit an RBI single and catcher Kaylee Bosworth scored to give Iowa State a 3-1 lead.

Texas Tech cut the Cyclones lead to one run in the top of the third inning with Karli Hamilton scoring off of an error by the Cyclones.

In the top of the fourth inning, Peyton Blythe hit an RBI double which tied the game fourth the Red Raiders.

Once again, the Cyclones recaptured the lead in the bottom of the fourth as Williams hit her second solo home run of the day to give the Cyclones a 4-3 lead.

Burton scored in the top of the fifth for Texas Tech to tie the game at four apiece.

In the top of the sixth inning, the Red Raiders scored off another error, this time it was Peyton Blythe, and the Red Raiders led 5-4.

Freshman Kasey Simpson bunted and Kirsten Caudle came around to score to the game at five in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Sydney Stites came off the bench to hit an RBI single to give the Cyclones a 6-5 victory in game two.

Iowa State and Texas Tech will play one final game at noon Sunday at Cyclone Sports Complex.
