Body Image and Eating Disorder Awareness (BIEDA) Week ended with the “Love Your Selfie” event Friday. Students lined up in the LeBaron Hall Lobby to have a Polaroid picture of themselves taken and write what they love about themselves. The 2019 Fashion Show Philanthropy committee hosted the event to help spread and promote self love on campus.

Once the pictures were developed, students were able to write something they love about themselves under their picture. The Polaroid and positive message was put up on a display board.

There was said to be a steady flow of students participating in this event. Students were especially more receptive to the idea during passing periods when they had extra time.

“People just get excited about it,” Madison Finstad, a sophomore on the Philanthropy Committee, said. “It’s fun seeing what they all have to write.”

Some messages written on the Polaroid pictures included I love…“my eyes,” “my passion,” “my love for animals,” “my smile,” “my natural hair.”

Along with taking pictures, committee members passed out treats with encouraging messages and pins to promote BIEDA. BIEDA is an on-campus organization that encourages people to love themselves for who they are and to partake in a healthy, positive lifestyle. The Fashion Show Philanthropy Committee is trying its best to tackle the ideals of body image and encourage students to love themselves.

The committee looks forward to putting on more events to help make a difference, including the “Days for Girls” sewing event held Saturday.
