The Pride Alliance will be hosting a drag show at 7 p.m. Sunday in the Great Hall of the Memorial Union.

Admission is $10 for public and $8 for dues paying members and “Don’t forget those tips,” according to a Pride Alliance flyer for the show.

Mara Spooner, manager at Worldly Goods and well known for the Bartop Burlesque shows at London underground, will be the host.

“We have eight queens and one king performing, which I am very excited about,” said Roslyn Gray, president of Pride Alliance.

All eight queens and the king are campus affiliated in some way.

A drag king is “a woman who dresses as a man and performs as an entertainer caricaturing stereotypically masculine men,” according to Merriam-Webster dictionary.

Simple etiquette for first time attendees according to myslutbox.com:

Stay out of the performance space unless invited in

Don’t steal the focus of the show

Cheer and make some noise for the performers

Do not initiate physical contact with the performers

Make sure to tip

Most of all, have a good a time

“No one can make you tip, but it’s an unspoken rule of drag shows,” according to myslutbox.com. “If you’re going to take up a table or seat closest to the performance area, shell out. Plus, drag performers work hard and drag is expensive. So show some support.”

Pride Alliance will be selling t-shirts and buttons at the drag show as well.

All proceeds, including tips, from the drag show will go toward funding Pride Alliance to attend MBLGTACC, which is the largest LGBTQIA+ Midwest college conference.
