Rock Your Body is a dance class session hosted by the Body Image and Eating Disorder Awareness (BIEDA) student organization as part of National Eating Disorder Awareness Week. It took place on Feb. 28 at Beyer Hall.

The Body Image and Eating Disorders Awareness Student Organization (BIEDA) has dedicated the past week to raising awareness about body image, eating disorders, and how to seek help.

According to the Iowa State Student Organizations Website, “the purpose and goal of BIEDA is to encourage a positive, sustainable lifestyle through body image and eating disorder awareness and campus/local resource identification.”

“Our organization is about raising awareness about body image and eating disorders on campus. This week we’re really striving to really promote that awareness and respect each other for who we are.” said Pre-Dietetics Major and Vice President of BEIDA, Anna Colagrossi.

On Monday, they held an event called “Honor Your Hunger”, a free food and beverage stand for students and faculty to learn to respect their bodies and honor their hunger and fullness signals. Tuesday, BIEDA screened the “Fattitude Film”, a film discussing body size prejudice. Wednesday night, Sarah Thompson, also known as the “resilient fat goddex” gave a lecture covering weight stigmas as well as eating disorder stigmas and biases, and advocating for size acceptance.

Today, Thursday, BIEDA had a “Rock Your Body” cardio dance class. This class was a fun and energetic way to raise awareness about body image and eating disorders while getting in a healthy workout and enjoying some healthy snacks.

“Today we’re doing a cardio dance class to promote joyful movement and moving our bodies in a way that’s fun and energizing while also breaking a sweat. We’re just trying to promote awareness and also resources across campus and throughout the Ames community if anyone is struggling with an eating disorder or needs additional help,” said Senior Dietetics Major and Co-President of BIEDA, Sarah Maikon.

Friday, BIEDA will be having a “Love Your Selfie” event in the Lebaron Hall Lobby from 10 am to 1 pm to empower those on campus and promote positive self-esteem by encouraging students and faculty to stop by and take a polaroid picture and write on it one reason you love yourself.

“We’re a huge happy community trying to promote positivity throughout Iowa State’s campus,” Colagrossi said
