The No. 19 ISU gymnastics team is looking to avenge an early loss in the season to No. 23 Missouri at 7 p.m. Friday when the two meet in a Big 12 Conference showdown at Hilton Coliseum.

In their first meeting on Jan. 12, the Cyclones were defeated by the Tigers 192.575-192.000 in Columbia, Mo.

Head coach K. J. Kindler said the team wants to get this win, especially since they lost to them so early in the season.

“The girls want to win so as to say, ‘We weren’t on our game at that point, but we are now,’ ” Kindler said.

Freshman Erin Dethloff won Big 12 Gymnast of the Week honors this week for the second time this year after scoring 39.60 in the all-around and taking first in three of the four events last Friday against Oklahoma.

Dethloff didn’t see much practice before that meet due to a bruised heal, but Kindler said she is doing great and has no restrictions due to the injury.

Sophomore Susan Stock is still feeling irritation in her foot, which she injured at Minnesota Feb. 22. Kindler said she is expected to be able to perform.

The team has had a good week of practice and have spent time working on the vault, Kindler said.

“In the Big 12, our weak area is vault and the uneven bars in rankings,” Kindler said. “Beam has been really good when we are hitting the routines.”

The lineups for the events should remain the same with the possible exceptions of junior Gabby Layne on bars and freshman Laura-Kay Powell on vault, Kindler said.

Kindler said the keys to winning the meet will be having a good start on the first events, especially vault. “We need to take the advantage right away. We have to be hot right out of the gate and not at the end because it will be too late,” Kindler said.
