Soccer team loses two on weekend

Laura Schweer (above) and the ISU women’s soccer team dropped two matches on the weekend, a 2-0 decision to Pennsylvania and a 5-0 loss to Princeton.

The losses dropped Iowa State’s record to 1-3 on the year.

In Friday’s matchup, Pennsylvania scored 22:26 into the match on a Katy Cross goal to make the score 1-0. Cross scored again at the 87:22 mark for a final score of 2-0.

Tiffany Belz and Arlene Samuel each had two of the six shots on goal for the Cyclones. Freshman goalkeeper Karen Hasselman stopped nine shots for Iowa State.

Against Princeton, the Cyclones were outshot 17-8.

Freshman Janine Willis recorded the first score for the Tigers five minutes into the match. Princeton followed with scores from junior Heather Deerin and freshman Sylvia Morelli to end the first-half scoring. Goals by freshman Esmeralda Negron and junior Joan Cundey ended the scoring for the Tigers.

Hasselman turned in a good performance, making a career-high 12 saves.
