Soccer tunes up for Iowa with 4-1 win

The Cyclone women’s soccer squad survived a tune-up for intrastate rival Iowa, and picked up their first road win in the process.

Iowa State (2-3) routed Bowling Green State 4-1 on Friday at the Libertyville Soccer Complex.

It was the first time in almost two years that the Cardinal and Gold scored four goals.

The Cyclones had been shutout three times this season.

ISU sophomore Nicole Wilcox pounded in two goals to lead the attack.

She was joined in the scoring column by freshmen Nikki Gamble and Erin Weldon, who each recorded one goal. BGSU was able to avoid the shutout when Kristy Coppes scored with 21 minutes remaining.

It was the first loss for the BGSU Falcons (3-1-2).

Shots on goal were a factor in the match as ISU held the edge 11-3, according to the Bowling Green Web site.

Iowa State now its their attention to the University of Iowa. The Hawkeye match up is slated for Thursday at 4:00 p.m. in Iowa City.
