MoJazz now one of Ames’ largest

With the addition of a new area, the popular night spot MoJazz is set to become one of the biggest Ames bars.

On Friday night, MoJazz, 2520 Lincoln Way, will debut its latest addition, a “chill bar,” as co-owner Dwight Rivera likes to call it.

The renovation, which took nearly four months to complete, is located beneath MoJazz’s main dance floor.

The addition will up the club’s capacity from 270 to 330, making it Ames’ biggest bar, along with The Dean’s List, 2522 Chamberlain St.

Since opening last October, MoJazz has offered a number of different settings to its patrons including a spacious bar area, a quaint outdoor patio and a large dance floor complete with light shows.

With the expansion, though, the club aims to offer its customers a new setting that will allow them to relax and escape the rave/party atmosphere that envelops the rest of the bar.

“We want to create a different ambience,” says Rivera, “a setting that is comfortable and unlike any other place around.”

Rivera co-owns the bar with his brother Stan.

He hopes to accomplish his goal of revamping the club’s atmosphere through great music and friendly people.

“We play everything here,” says Rivera.”From techno to hip-hop to rap and even house. And our drink specials are as good as anywhere in Ames.”

“You won’t hear Paul Simon here,” says Brett Immel, MoJazz bartender and junior in apparel and merchandising.

“But you will hear Paul Oakenfold.”

Thursday night’s drink special at MoJazz is “two-fers.”

Progressive vodka drinks are Friday night’s special and Saturday night’s special is progressive rum and Cokes.
