Beyer, Griebel in University Games

The ISU track and field team has one more thing to be proud of.

ISU athletes Jamie Beyer and Lisa Griebel will compete at the World University Games in Beijing, China, Aug. 27- Sept. 1 as part of the United States team.

Both Beyer and Griebel qualified at the United States Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Ore. June 21-24 by being one of the top two university finishers in their event.

Beyer came away with an eighth place finish overall in the men’s shot put with a throw of 64-11 1/2 while Griebel finished fifth overall in the women’s shot put with a throw of 52-10 1/4.

Fizer added to Goodwill Games

Former Cyclone basketball standout Marcus Fizer has been added to the 2001 USA Basketball Goodwill Games to be held in Melbourne, Australia.

Fizer, a second-team all-rookie selection for the NBA’s Chicago Bulls will replace Golden State Warrior Marc Jackson on the roster.

Jackson is attending to family matters.
