The Ames Boys and Girls Club is sponsoring a fund raiser this weekend called the Summer Breeze Benefit. The fund raiser will take place June 8, 9 and 10 at the Ames Boys and Girls Club, 210 S. Fifth St., and at Bandshell Park, on the corner of Fifth Street and Duff Avenue.

Geff Gescheidler, executive director of the Ames Boys and Girls Club, said there are about 30 hot air balloons participating in the fund raiser this year.

Balloons will launch Friday and Saturday between 5:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. and Sunday at 6:30 a.m. The competition will include activities such as hitting targets on the ground from the balloons.

The balloons will return at about 8:30 p.m. both Friday and Saturday night for the Night Glow.

“All the balloons light up their burners, and the balloon part lights up,” Gescheidler said. “It’s really a beautiful sight.”

Other events include a teen dance at the Boys and Girls Club Friday 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.; a community dinner at the Boys and Girls Club Saturday 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.; a talent show at Bandshell Park 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday; and a silent auction at the Boys and Girls Club 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday.

All events are open to the community, but the dance is limited to those between 13 and 18 years of age.

All proceeds from the event are going toward the operations of the Ames Boys and Girls Club.
