The ISU men’s and women’s track teams will face the rest of the Big 12 at the conference track meet this weekend. The indoor meet, which is being held in Lincoln, Neb., at the Devaney Center, will start at 1 p.m. today and continue through 1 p.m. Saturday. After only six track meets, including the Holiday Classic that was back in the second week of December, the ISU athletes will work for places in the meet to score points for the team. Leading the women’s team in consistent top finishes all season are Gina Curtis in the high jump, Ola Adetiba in the 200m dash and Aurelia Trywianska in the 60m hurdles. Curtis jumped 5 11 1/2 at the ISU Open in January which qualified her for nationals. Adetiba ran 23.99 in the 200 two weeks ago to place her high in the nationals list, while Trywianska hit her fastest time of 8.26 at the same meet while competing against the former Olympian from Canada. On the men’s side, Joey Brunkhorst, Daniel Kaezmarczyk and Andy Long have led the team. Brunkhorst is ranked second in the conference with a jump at 7 2 1/4. Kaezmarczyk has been long jumping 25 feet all season and has outjumped everyone else in the conference with his recent jump of 25 8 1/4. Long has qualified in the men’s high hurdles with a time of 7.87 at the ISU Open. While all competitors can still use this meet to qualify for nationals, the important part of conference is to outrun the other teams. Iowa State’s goal this weekend will be to finish in the top places in as many events as possible to score points for the team. After this weekend, the indoor season will be finished for all but the best who will proceed to the national qualifying meet next weekend and then hopefully the national championships March 9 and 10.
