Cyclones dominate on Cael’s big day

The ISU wrestling team pulled away from Hofstra in the last four matches to post a 32-10 victory Sunday at Hilton Coliseum.The Cyclones split the first six matches with the Pride and only held a lead of 11-10 heading into the 157-pound match In that match, ISU’s Cole Sanderson defeated Dennis Papadatos 10-3 and the Cyclones never looked back.In the final three matches, the Cyclones scored 18 teams points as Joe Heskett won by disqualification at 165, Perry Parks received a forfeit at 174 and Cael Sanderson won by pin to close out the meet.”Overall, the team wrestled well. There was some down spots in the scoring but we’re pleased with the performance,” ISU coach Bobby Douglas said.Cyclone freshman Zach Roberson turned in a big victory over Jason DeBruin, ranked fifth nationally, at141 pounds. Roberson scored a reversal in the second period and rode DeBruin through the entire third period to win 4-1.”Roberson is improving with every match. He had an outstanding performance,” Douglas said.Other Cyclones to record victories were Zach Thompson at 197 and heavyweight Mark Knauer. Thompson cruised to a 24-8 technical fall victory while Knauer won 12-6.The Cyclones are back in action next weekend, defending the title at the National Duals, to be held at Penn State University.”Our technique is coming along and so is our conditioning,” Douglas said. “Our next step is a big test. We’ll find out where we’re at as a team at Penn State next weekend.”
