Letter to the editor: Pride (in the name)

Chris, it may sound funny but we are actually quite similar: me, Johnny resident and you, frat boy.

I was thinking, “you know what? I have pride just like you.”

I have pride in the fact that I wear socks with a yellow stripe on them, and you have pride in your fraternity and well, the two things are similar.

I mean, we both paid for them, they smell funny sometimes and, well, in actuality, it took nothing to have pride in either.

You and I didn’t have to earn the pride we have.

We just drew some conclusion, we pulled it out of the sky and proclaimed that we have pride with no actual rationale because there is none, and none is needed.

The only difference is that I know while I have pride in my socks because they make my feet look cool and make me feel good, and you have pride in your fraternity because it gives you friends, brotherhood and a social network, I know that I am not better than anyone because of it.

Pride makes me proud, not better.

I am glad you are happy with your fraternity and have pride in it, because I have pride in mine as well.

You just need to understand the difference, because one can have pride in anything, but ultimately it doesn’t mean anything to anyone else.
