The Ames-ISU YMCA is sponsoring a program to pair ISU students with elementary students to form mentoring relationships throughout the community. In the Partners in Active Learning Support program, which is similar to the Big Brother program, elementary teachers and administrators from several Ames schools recommend at-risk students for the program. The kids spend two hours a week with their college partner. The PALS program was started in Ames seven years ago, and expanded to 28 members last year. For more information about the PALS program, call program director Shawn Hollenkamp at 294-1432 or e-mail him at [email protected].
