An Ames man was arrested Friday after Ames Police charged him with purposely inflicting a skull fracture and other injuries to his infant girl.

Jerry Robert Davis, Jr., 27, was arrested at about 1 p.m. Friday and is being held in the Story County Jail on a $60,000 bond, according to a press release. He is charged with child endangerment and willful injury, both Class C felonies.

Police began investigating the incident after emergency room staff at the Mary Greeley Medical Center treated the infant for a skull fracture and a subdural hemorrhage May 21.

Police spokesman Sgt. Mike Johns said in a prepared news release that the parents’ explanation of how the child sustained the injuries didn’t seem to match up with the physical examination of the 3-month-year-old baby, so Mary Greeley ER staff called the Ames Police.

After a short investigation, police found that the infant had sustained the injuries while under the custody of Davis at a local hotel where the parents were staying temporarily. They had been living in Nevada until recently.

The child’s mother has not been charged in the case. Department of Human Services has temporarily assumed custody of the child.
