Raving in Ames

Conor Bezane

A sold-out crowd hit The M-Shop Friday for Techno Injection, a five-hour nonstop techno party. The night marked the first time in years the Ames venue has hosted DJs. Spinning happy-hardcore, house, jungle, minimalist and speed trance, local DJs Reaktor, Jerrod, Kernel Scurry, Bluto and Digital Killer inspired veteran ravers and electronica amateurs to tear up the dancefloor. Waving around glow sticks and rotating their hands to the beat of the music, the dancers created a unique atmosphere, one quite different than during the Shop’s usual live music performances. Before the event, M-Shop program director Steve Winders said he hopes to someday bring in DJs from California, Seattle and New York. Techno events hosted at Boheme have also generated recent success.
