Board of Regents, State of Iowa members will be voting on the strategic plans for Iowa’s three regent universities at their upcoming meeting.

The plans faced a preliminary review during the November board meeting and will be discussed again during the Dec. 15-16 meeting at the Marriott Hotel in West Des Moines.

Some of Iowa State’s goals include strengthening undergraduate teaching and programs, sustaining and enhancing an intellectually stimulating environment and establishing international leadership through the use of information technology and computation services.

Rab Mukerjea, assistant to ISU President Martin Jischke, said he thought the regents agreed with the strategic plans during their November meeting.

“The board was quite complimentary in their remarks last month,” he said. “We have not been asked for any additional information.”

Regent David Fisher said he thinks the plans will be well-received by the regents.

“I think that the universities have done their homework,” he said. “I didn’t see anything I thought needed changing.”

Regent Roger Lande agreed the universities’ plans were impressive, adding that he especially liked the “increasing emphasis on service to the student and quality education” at the three universities.

“I’m sure there’ll be a lot of discussion on them so that we have a clear idea of where they’re going,” he said. “But I think they’re likely to find approval.”

Fisher also said he thought the plans would not face any controversy.

“I have been pleased with the progress and process on these plans over the years,” Fisher said.

“We’re all working together towards the same direction,” he said.

The idea for strategic planning was created by the Board of Regents, State of Iowa to help the three regent universities clarify their future goals and priorities.
