A rural Ames man was arrested Monday afternoon and charged with sexually abusing two young boys, Story County Sheriff’s Office officials said.

Capt. Gary Foster said Everett Thomas DeMoss, 67, 227 190th St., was arrested at his residence at about 1:30 p.m., after a three-month investigation by the Story County Sheriff’s Office.

DeMoss was arrested in connection with allegations that he had sexual contact with two brothers, ages 7 and 8, in his home at least three times during the last year.

Story County officers were informed of the allegations by the boys’ mother in July, Foster said. The brothers were acquaintances of DeMoss.

DeMoss faces two counts of second-degree sexual abuse, a Class B felony. If convicted, DeMoss would face up to 50 years in jail.

Foster said DeMoss is being held in the Story County Jail on $150,000 bond while awaiting his initial appearance in court.
