Former Iowa State volleyball coach Kerry Miller pleaded guilty Thursday to charges of falsifying her ISU r‚sum‚.

Miller, 36, entered a plea of guilty rather than stand trial for charges that she violated an Iowa criminal statute regarding “prohibitions relating to false academic degrees, grades or honors.”

A sentencing trial has been set for Aug. 31 at 3 p.m. in district associate court at the Story County Courthouse in Nevada.

Miller could face up to a year in prison and a fine of up to $1,500 for the serious misdemeanor.

On June 14, Miller entered a plea of not guilty, according to court documents.

Miller listed on her application to ISU that she was a three-year letterwinner with the Arizona Wildcats, as well as the 1983 Southwestern Conference Rookie of the Year while with the University of Houston. Both of those credentials were proved in May of 1999 to be false.

She also claimed she had a degree from the University of Arizona, where she attended classes but never graduated.

Miller was charged on May 11 with violating the Iowa falsified academic records law.

Department of Public Safety officers attempted to execute an warrant for Miller’s arrest, but she already had left her Ames residence for her native New Jersey.

On May 27, Miller came to the Story County Courthouse with Hartung to turn herself into authorities.

Tom Kroeschell, assistant athletic director of Media Relations, declined to comment on Miller’s plea.

“We’re not going to have any comment about that,” he said.
