Strong pitching performances by senior pitcher Savannah Sanders propelled the Cyclones to two victories on Friday. The Cyclones beat Marshall 1-0 and the Radford Highlanders 2-1 in extra innings.

An RBI sacrifice fly by senior Taylor Nearad in the bottom of the first inning was all the offense Iowa State needed to beat the Thundering Herd 1-0. Senior second baseman Sydney Stites scored.

Sanders was strong in the circle as she pitched a shutout and allowed one hit, tossing seven strikeouts.

With the win against Marshall, Sanders has a record 1-2 in four games started.

Following their win against the Thundering Herd, the Cyclones took on the Highlanders.

Iowa State got on the board early with a solo home run by Stites in the top of the first inning. Radford was able to tie things up in the top of the second as Brooke Bond scored off of a fielders choice.

Neither team was able to break away from the other as the game went into extra innings.

Via the international tiebreaker, each team was allowed to place a runner on second base when it was their turn to bat.

Iowa State took advantage of the rule in the top of the eighth as Stites was able to score after Nearad hit a sacrifice bunt, and Sally Woolpert hit a ground ball to second base that drove Stites home to give the Cyclones a 2-1 win over the Highlanders.

Emma Hylen pitched the entire game and had seven strikeouts.

Iowa State will play one game at 4:45 p.m. Saturday against the Appalachian State Mountaineers.
