No. 4 Cyclones suffer 5-3 loss to No. 1 Lindenwood

The Cyclones hit the ice again on Saturday to finish out the series against No. 1 Lindenwood. The final score was 5-3 in favor of the Lions.

The Lions struck first just 2:53 into the game, courtesy of Ryan Finnegan. The Cyclones answered back four minutes later, with a goal from senior forward Tony Uglem. The score remained tied at one heading into the first intermission.

Lindenwood started off the second period strong, scoring three goals within the first eight minutes. Jordan Klimovsky, Jake Townsend and Aapo Nurminen capitalized for the Lions.

Senior forward Trevor Sabo tallied his second goal in as many games for the Cyclones with 7:26 left in the second. The teams went into the locker room with a 4-2 score.

Lindenwood killed off the Cyclones’ power play in the beginning of the third period, and then added another goal, courtesy of Zach Martin.

The Cyclones killed off their first penalty of the weekend, keeping the score at 5-2. They later got another power play of their own, in which they capitalized.

Senior forward Aaron Azevedo scored the power play goal to make the score 5-3 with 2:09 left in the game.

Azevedo’s goal was the last goal of the game, which ended in a 5-3 score.
