Dole to visit ISU again for Tri-Delta brunch

Elizabeth Dole will be visiting Iowa State for the second time this year today at 10:30 a.m. for brunch at the Delta Delta Delta sorority house, 302 Ash Ave.

Katie Isiminger, president of Delta Delta Delta and sophomore in chemical engineering, said Dole is stopping in Ames on her way to a luncheon in Des Moines.

“We’re really excited to meet her; she’s such a great role model,” Isiminger said.

She said Dole, an alumna of Delta Delta Delta, will be on campus for about an hour.

During the brunch, Isiminger said Dole will be listening to sorority members talk about their membership support of Dole’s bid for the U.S. presidency.

Monty Shaw, Iowa campaign manager for the Elizabeth Dole Exploratory Committee, said Dole will be visiting the sorority on her way to a 2:30 p.m. meeting in the state auditor’s office in Des Moines.

“There has been a lot of interest in supporting Mrs. Dole in the Delta Delta Delta sorority and other sororities,” Shaw said. “She wants to meet some of them, thank them and keep them energized.”

The sorority found out about Dole’s visit last week, Isiminger said, and it mainly was coordinated by her campaign staff.

“We weren’t really in charge of who was to come,” Isiminger said about the brunch’s select guest list, which includes only Delta Delta Delta members, alumni, other sorority presidents and ISU President Martin Jischke.

Despite the short time Dole will be on campus, Isiminger is looking forward to the visit.

“I would love to hear her talk about her views on women in politics,” she said.

“It will be great to hear an actual alumnus talk about her experiences in that sort of thing,” Isiminger said.

Isiminger said Dole also will be visiting ISU on Aug. 14 for a barbecue with the sorority during the house tours for prospective members.
