Life on the North Pole: Questions with Santa

Nina Fox

Editor’s Note: “Questions of the Week” is part of a weekly series in which Daily reporter Nina Fox interviews a prominent person in the Iowa State and Ames communities, or the North Pole.

This week, she interviewed Santa Claus while he was making a stop at North Grand Mall.

What is your job as Santa Claus?

I deliver presents to girls and boys everywhere, bringing them joy and happiness on Christmas Day.

Which reindeer is the fastest?

Rudolph, of course, because he leads the way and pulls the sleigh along with Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner and Blitzen. All of the rest are really fast too, though.

Are there any naughty children on your list this year?

No, only good children who have been kind, caring and respectful to others this year.

What is the most popular gift kids have been asking for this year?

Children have been asking for a wide variety of toys, from trucks to dolls to video games.

How do you prepare for Christmas Eve?

First, I double-check my list to make sure who has been naughty and who has been nice. Then Mrs. Claus cooks me a dinner, and I polish the sleigh and Rudolph’s nose. After all the elves have finished making and wrapping the toys, we load them onto the sleigh.

What makes your reindeer fly?

That’s a secret I can’t tell.

What is your favorite Christmas song?

“Jingle Bells” and “Santa Claus is Coming To Town.”

Everyone always tells you what they want for Christmas, but what would you like for Christmas?

I want all the children of the world to never stop believing in me.
