Headlining Sunday’s Ska Against Racism Tour will be Less Than Jake, a six-piece punk-ska band from Gainesville, Fla.

Formed in the summer of 1992, the band has quickly moved up the music industry ladder, playing shows throughout the United States.

According to the official Less Than Jake Web site, the band has released 13 records and has appeared on 38 compilations and soundtracks.

Over the years, Less Than Jake built up a solid fan base recording two albums on independent label Dill Records — the group’s debut, “Losers, Kings and Things We Don’t Understand” and the follow-up “Pezzcore.”

Dill Records is a label started by ex-Skankin’ Pickle lead singer and current Bruce Lee Band vocalist Mike “Bruce Lee” Park.

The primarily punk-ska label has released music from bands such as Slapstick and MU330. Park also recently established another punk-ska label called Asian Man Records. In addition, Park played a major role in planning the Ska Against Racism Tour.

Before signing to Capitol Records, Less Than Jake had already been able to go on nationwide tours and sell out shows, all without the help of a major label.

On Capitol, Less Than Jake has released “Losing Streak,” the band’s major label debut which contains a re-recorded version of “Johnny Quest Thinks We’re Sellouts,” a song which generated some commercial radio airplay.

Lead vocals are shared by guitarist Chris and bassist Roger (the band members choose not to reveal their last names). The horn section consists of Jessica on alto saxophone, Buddy on trombone and Derron on both baritone and tenor saxophones.

The baritone saxophone is one aspect of the lineup that sets the band apart from other punk-ska bands. The drummer in the band is Vinnie.

The Ska Against Racism Tour, sponsored by The M-Shop, will take place at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Arboretum.

Tickets are still available for students for $10 in advance or $11 at the venue and can be purchased at all TicketMaster outlets. Tickets are $15 for non-students.
