ISU Extension in Story County is holding a Women’s Financial program which starts Sept. 10.

Carolyn Manning, Story County extension education director, said this is the fifth of these programs they have hosted, with more than 200 previous participants.

“It is planned for women of all ages,” she said. “The Women’s Financial Information Program will help women learn to take charge of their money during this seven-week workshop.”

Topics to be discussed include getting organized, cash flow, banking and credit, managing risks, investing for retirement, where to get professional help and making decisions about personal finances when affected by divorce, incapacity or death.

The workshop will be held on Wednesdays from Sept. 10 through Oct. 22 at the Ames Public Library from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

WFIP is sponsored by Iowa State University Extension and American Association of Retired Persons. Members of the Advisory Committee planning the workshops are Fran Berger, Ruth Grabau, Clemmye Jackson, Joan Leysen, Connie Litzel, Pravina Shah, Norma Thompson and Sharon Wirth.

The seven sessions cost a total of $25. The fee covers the cost of the materials and a money management workbook.

Class size is limited, and interested people are encouraged to register soon.

“We have 28 enrolled and there is room for more. They need to call our office and get their name on the registration, but more importantly they need to send their $25 registration to Story County Extension at 220 H Avenue Box 118, Nevada, 50201 immediately,” said Manning. “We cannot plan for drop-ins so they need to be preregistered.”
