Applications being taken for Senior Class Council

Senior Class Council is looking for a few good seniors to fill council positions.

Applications are now being accepted to fill 16 positions on the council, including one representative from each college, as well as a multicultural, public relations, graphic design and three senior class challenge representatives.

There are also openings for two social chairs and a business manager.

Andy Lashier, SCC president, said, “It’s going to be a fun way to have your last big leadership opportunity on campus. Each of these officers will have a lot of responsibility, such as conversing with the deans of the colleges, the minority liaison officers and the advisers of every college.”

Officers will also have a hand in choosing and raising funds for this year’s senior class gift.

Lashier said the class gift is probably the biggest function the council serves.

Last year’s class gift was replacing the tennis and sand volleyball courts that were located south of the design center.

“This year, we’re going to open it up to everybody to see what the class of 1998’s gift will be,” Lashier said.

The council is also planning a senior tailgate, senior week activities and discounts in the spring, social functions and many education seminars on topics such as taking graduate school entrance exams, interviewing and writing resumes, Lashier said.

The SCC is a committee of the Iowa State University Alumni Association because it was felt that one of the main goals of the council would be “to get seniors to know more about the Alumni Association and to keep in touch with Iowa State University after graduating,” he said.

Lashier said he personally wanted to be part of Senior Class Council because he felt last year’s council didn’t reach as many seniors as possible.

He plans to reach more by separating students out by college, he said.

Lashier said they haven’t had a lot of applications turned in yet and are hoping to receive more in the next week.
