The College of Education and the College of Engineering will add to the Veishea atmosphere by sponsoring their own events today as part of Countdown to Veishea.

Matt Tiedens, Countdown to Veishea co-chairman, said the College of Education will start the morning with a campus walk/run and breakfast. This event will go from 7:30 to 9 a.m. and will be located at the Lagomarcino Hall courtyard.

“They will also be doing fitness testing and information at the same time,” Tiedens said.

The campus walk/run, breakfast, fitness testing and fitness information is sponsored by the Association for Worksite Health Promotion.

“This event is open to everyone,” Tiedens said.

The Education Club, Tiedens said, is sponsoring mock interviews with the Ames elementary principals. The Education Club has posted a sign up sheet on its bulletin board. Mock interviews will be held at 10 a.m., noon and from 1 to 4 p.m. The interviews are free of charge.

The mock interviews will also be held in Lagomarcino in rooms N111, 113 and 115, Tiedens said.

A book search contest will be held inside the northeast entrance of Lagomarcino Hall from 9:45 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. The contest, Tiedens said, will consist of students rifling through the books to find prizes.

“There will be gift certificates and other valuable prizes inside the books,” he said.

The Educational Computing Club and other College of Education organizations are sponsoring the book search. This event will cost $1 per session.

The Educational Computing Club along with other organizations will sponsor a faculty pull. Faculty members will sit on saucer-sleds while students pull them in a relay race. The faculty pull will be located in the Lagomarcino Hall courtyard and will cost $1 per entry.

At noon, Susan Peterson, a doctoral student working for Project Learn, will speak about preparing for an interview. Tiedens said free pizza and pop will be served during Peterson’s speech. The speech will be delivered in the Barton Morgan Reading Room, N166 Lagomarcino Hall.

The College of Engineering, Tiedens said, will be sponsoring engineering displays today. The displays will be located on the main floor of Marston Hall.

“There will be 11 engineering groups participating in the display,” he said.

The American Society of Manufacturing Engineers will also show its work in a tent display on Friday and Saturday.

“We aren’t sure of the details on all of the displays,” Tiedens said.

The College of Education will also be holding “Superimpose Your Face,” on Friday and Saturday. Participants can have their photo taken with a digital camera and have it superimposed onto a cartoon character or a fictitious body.

“Superimpose Your Face” will be held on Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the northeast entrance of Lagomarcino Hall. It will cost $2 per person. This event is sponsored by the Educational Computing Club.
