Iowa State recruit Marcus Fizer, a 6-foot 7-inch center/forward from Arcadia, La has been named to Parade magazine’s 1997 All-American High School Boys Basketball Team.

The team, which is selected annually by college coaches, scouts and recruiters throughout the country, will be in Sunday’s issue of Parade Magazine.

The team includes 40 athletes from 22 states.

Parade Magazine has traditionally been a good luck charm for many athletes who have been nominated.

Such current NCAA basketball standouts that have been named to Parade’s All-American team are Charles O’Bannon of UCLA, Michael Bibby of Arizona, Danny Fortson of Cincinnati, Chauncey Billups of Colorado, Ron Mercer of Kentucky and Trajan Langdon of Duke.

The talent levels of Parade All-Americans have even reached the highest ranks of the NBA.

Former Parade All-Americans include Michael Jordan of the Chicago Bulls, Alonzo Mourning of the Miami Heat, Patrick Ewing of the New York Knicks, Larry Johnson of the NewYork Knicks, Shawn Kemp of the Seattle Supersonics and Shaquille O’Neal of the Los Angeles Lakers.

Not a bad class to be spoken among. Fizer will be in action next season in a Cyclone uniform hoping to follow in the tracks of previous Parade All-Americans.
