Last weekend’s Big 12 Championship swim meet brought record-setting performances to Iowa State swimmer Jay Schindler.

Schindler set a new school record in the 100 breaststroke preliminaries with a time of 54.02 seconds. Schindler’s performance was good enough to eclipse the previous mark of 54.91 held by Patrick Isaksson at the 1995 Big Eight Championship.

Schindler’s success continued as he won the 100 breaststroke finals in a time of 54.49.

That time set a new record at the Student Recreation Center Natatorium, breaking the previous record of 55.14 held by Marty Hubbel.

Schindler’s achievements as a Cyclone include two-time All-American status, as well as being an Academic All-American.

Schindler’s 100-breaststroke championship performance at last year’s Big Eight meet earned him a trip to the NCAA Championship where he earned 12th place and his second All-American award. Cyclone swimmer Joakim Dahl finished second in the 100-butterfly with a time of 48.03, and set a new ISU record.

The ISU 400 medley relay team provided yet another record setting performance when they finished second with a time of 3minutes, 15.17 seconds.
