ISU signs two-sport standout

Iowa State head volleyball Coach Jackie Nunez and women’s head track coach Dick Lee announced Thursday that Omaha/Millard North standout Kelly Cizek has signed a national letter of intent to attend ISU in the fall.

Cizek will play volleyball for the Cyclones while competing in the high jump for the track team.Cizek has earned numerous accolades while attending Omaha/Millard North.

Besides being named as one of Volleyball magazine’s Fab 50 recruits, Cizek was ranked 10th nationally in the high jump by Track & Field News while being named to All-Metro and All-State teams. Cizek also finished her career holding the Omaha/Millard North school records in kills, hitting efficiency and blocks.

“Kelly is our first ‘Fabulous 50’ signing. She is a highly talented multi-sport athlete who possesses all the physical, mental and competitive tools to become a high- impact player for our program,” Nunez said. “Kelly will be competing in both volleyball and track here at ISU. We anticipate her being a highly regarded force in both sports in the Big 12 conference.”

Other accolades include being selected to the National Junior Olympic Elite Jumps Camp in 1995, 1996 and 1997. As an undefeated state champion in the high jump her sophomore and junior year, Cizek owns the Nebraska state high school record in the high jump at 5-feet 10-inches.

“Kelly’s high school achievements are really impressive. To jump 5-10 as a junior and ranks among the top 10 prep competitors is a tribute to her ability,” Lee said.
