Iowa State staff members received 27 awards in the District six recognition program sponsored by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE).

Vice President of External Affairs Murray Blackwelder, said, “I think that was probably more than any other university in the district.”

District six includes colleges and universities in Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wyoming.

The awards recognize achievement in the areas of publications, special events, public relations campaigns, fund-raising initiatives, design concepts, writing, photography and audio and visual productions.

Blackwelder said there were 600 entries from more than 70 institutions across the country.

There were 65 people from universities nationwide judging the entries.

“That’s kind of neat when you’re judged by your peers,” Blackwelder said.

Iowa State received five first- place (gold) awards, six second- place (silver) awards and 16 third place (bronze) awards.

CASE holds a yearly convention where the awards are handed out. This year’s convention was held Jan. 18-20 in Kansas City, Mo. Des Moines will host the convention next year.

“An entry form is sent out and each institution decides what they want to enter,” Blackwelder said.

The different works the universities submit all involve projects in external relations.

Blackwelder said copies of The Iowa Stater (alumni magazine) and Inside Iowa State (faculty newspaper) were both submitted, as well as fund-raising brochures.

“I’m very proud of the external relations team at Iowa State,” Blackwelder said. He added it was a significant achievement winning 27 awards out of 600 total awards.

All the winners were recognized at a luncheon on the last day of the convention.
