Gold shoots for Senate

Students may be seeing and hearing more about Government of the Student Body President Adam Gold next year.

Gold was a write-in candidate for the off-campus senate seat in this week’s GSB elections.

Gold, who has been accepted to graduate school at ISU, said he is considering going to graduate school because he hasn’t received any good job offers.

He said if he gets a good job offer he will probably take the job, and if elected he would help find another person to replace him.

“That’s honestly one of the reasons why I didn’t campaign,” Gold said. “I don’t want to leave the seat open.”

Gold said he is running for a senate seat because he wants to continue to serve students and be a part of an active governmental body.

“I still want to be involved in GSB,” Gold said. “I’m looking forward to being able to vote and voice my concerns if elected. All year I’ve said the Senate has the power.”

Gold said having an off-campus council is key to representing off-campus students, and currently there isn’t one in place.

“I feel off-campus senators are doing the best of their ability, but there needs to be an off-campus council,” he said.

Gold said if elected he will practice what he preaches. He said he will represent his constituents by voting for what they want.

Mark Nimmer, off-campus, said he doesn’t know if anyone in GSB has ever gone from president to the Senate.

“I thought maybe he wanted to be a senator more than he wanted to be a president sometimes,” Nimmer said.

Nimmer, who is running for the American ethnic minority seat, said he also will leave his seat if he receives a job offer. “I look at student government as a learning place,” Nimmer said. He said it isn’t more important than a career.

Results of the elections will be announced tonight at 6:00 in the Cardinal Room of the Memorial Union. Results will be printed in Monday’s Daily.
