NEVADA — Iowa State forward Kenny Pratt pleaded innocent to all charges in connection with a Dec. 28 confrontation with Ames police.

Pratt faces charges of drunken driving, serious assault of a police officer, resisting an arrest and interference with official acts. Pratt also pleaded innocent to a traffic violation of driving without a license.

Pratt, who did not appear in court, was represented at his Monday arraignment at the Story County Courthouse by Gerald Crawford, an attorney with the Crawford Law Firm of Des Moines. Crawford delivered Pratt’s written plea to Judge Thomas Hronek.

Police said a car owned by a woman from Perry collided with Pratt’s vehicle at the corner of Lincoln Way and Dakota Avenue about 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 28. Police said Pratt failed a breathalizer test at the scene. Pratt was driving a 1997 Pontiac Grand Am rented in Des Moines by Audis Gardner of Des Moines. Gardner was listed on the National Car Rental Agency as the only authorized driver.

Reports also indicate that Pratt, a senior from Chicago, allegedly kicked an Ames police officer in the head, knocking one of the officer’s teeth loose.

ISU Coach Tim Floyd suspended Pratt from the team following the incident, but Pratt was reinstated by an athletic department appeals committee pending the outcome of the case. Pratt, the team’s second-leading scorer a year ago, was back in action Jan. 4.

Crawford said a court date should be set later this week. If Pratt chooses to waive his right to a speedy trial, the case could be delayed for up to one year, well after Pratt’s last season as a Cyclone is concluded. If not, a trial will be held within three months.

Pratt is also currently serving one year of probation for disorderly conduct.
