Nominations for the 1997 Faculty Senate president and vice president were held at Tuesday night’s Faculty Senate meeting.

“The elections of the two officers will be held at our January meeting,” said William Woodman, the Faculty Senate president.

Nominations for next year’s president were taken first. Woodman, the current president, was the only member nominated. Woodman is a sociology professor. He accepted his nomination.

The nominations for the 1997 Faculty Senate vice president position were taken next. Denise Vrchota, the sitting Faculty Senate president-elect, and Jack Girton, a professor of zoology, were both nominated. Vrchota is an assistant professor in the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication. Both members accepted their nominations.

“These nominations are not closed,” Woodman said. “We will build additional time for other nominations into the next meeting’s agenda.”

H.M. Stahr, chairman of the budget committee, announced that the committee had recently made two resolutions.

The first resolution was about the supplementary salary increase during the year of 1996.

The second resolution consisted of faculty concerns relating to the increased cost of living for faculty members who received less than inflation cost increases.

The committee will be making sure this year’s salary increases are made part of the salary base.

“This is a very modest step to take,” Woodman said. “These resolutions will be brought to the Board of Regents at their next meeting on Tuesday.”

Woodman also reminded the Faculty Senate members that the closing date for the bylaw revisions is Dec. 16.

The next Faculty Senate meeting will be on Jan. 14, 1997, at 7:30 p.m. in Room 260 of the Scheman Building.

The elections for president and vice president will be held at that time.
